See Chile, Santiago and the solar eclipse
Witnessing a total solar eclipse is a rare, wonderful and awe-inspiring experience. The next one takes place on July 2, 2019, and on this exclusive eight-day adventure you will be in the perfect place to see it: the beautiful Elqui Valley in Chile. On this exclusive trip, you will be accompanied by astronomer and eclipse expert Dr John Mason MBE, whose talks and insights will help you get the most out of this unforgettable experience.
Your holiday will start in Santiago - Chile's thrilling capital - with a guided tour, a trip on the famous cable car for a bird's eye view of the city and Andes Mountains, and dinner in a fabulous local restaurant. From here, you will venture into Chile's beautiful countryside, where award-winning wineries, a Pisco distillery tour and pretty rural towns await. It's the perfect introduction to Chile's stunning landscapes, combining memorable experiences with relaxation and fantastic food.
But the highlight of this 8-day tour is, of course, the total solar eclipse - which you will witness from El Pangue Observatory in the Elqui Valley. This unique spot has no light pollution, and the only human constructions visible from El Pangue are the scientific observatories Cerro Tololo and Gemini. It's a stunning location from which to watch this incredible natural phenomenon in the company of astronomers from all over the world.
