See the best of Dubai and relax in the Maldives
With its breathtaking skyscrapers and supersized malls, the buzzing city of Dubai is a thrilling place to visit. It's come a long way from its humble origins as a small trading post to the modern-day metropolis it is today in just a few decades.
This 11-night itinerary begins with four nights in the Arabian city in the five-star JW Marriott Marquis. The downtown hotel, one of the tallest in the world, boasts unforgettable views over the water and the Dubai skyline. Times readers will also receive a triple-upgraded room to a Deluxe Corner Suite, complete with living area, king-size bed, flat-screen TV and marble bathroom.
You'll also have plenty of time to explore everything Dubai has to offer. Included in your tour is entry to the 828 metre-high Burj Khalifa's 124th-floor observation deck. You will whiz up the building in a high-speed lift travelling at 10m per second and enjoy unobstructed 360-degree views of the city through the floor-to-ceiling glass walls. A desert dune safari and barbeque is also included.
From Dubai, you will fly to the Maldives and then take a connecting domestic flight and speedboat transfer to your hotel, The Residence. Again your accommodation will be upgraded to an Over Water Villa at this luxurious resort nestled on Falhumaafushi, a pristine island in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll, one of the largest atolls in the world. Dubai is an incredible success story - From its humble beginnings as a small trading post to a modern day metropolis in just a few decades. The city has been built for tourism and everything it does is to promote its own economy and its global appeal as a fantastic holiday destination. Dubai is both a dynamic international business centre and a laid-back tourist escape; a city where the sophistication of the 21st century walks hand in hand with the simplicity of a bygone era. But these contrasts give its unique flavour and personality; a cosmopolitan society with an international lifestyle, yet with a culture deeply rooted in the Islamic traditions of Arabia.
With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and something new happening everyday, your stay will be a memorable mix and match of all the things you have always wanted to do. From the wonderful shopping on offer in the modern malls and traditional souks, long stretches of wonderful beaches and spectacular sand dunes, a Dubai holiday has much to offer.
The city now boasts the tallest building in the world, a ski dome, some of the best shopping anywhere in the world and the first 6* hotel. The city is developing at a rapid pace and offers something for everyone.

Soaring high above Sheikh Zayed Road, your 5-star hotel is one of the tallest in the world and boasts awe-inspiring views of the water and the Dubai cityscape. Days5-11Stay at The Residence MaldivesThe Residence Maldives, Maldives
Take a flight, followed by a speedboat transfer to The Residence Maldives, where paradise awaits. The resort is nestled on Falhumaafushi, a pristine island in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll, one of the largest atolls in the world. Indulge in the private island sensation of this secluded retreat, where nature's unparalleled beauty creates a mesmerising backdrop for your sublime relaxation.
The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. It's known for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs. The capital, Malé, has a busy fish market, restaurants and shops on the main road.
The Maldives is home to perhaps the best beaches in the world; they're on almost every one of the country's nearly 1200 islands and are so consistently perfect that it's hard not to become blasé about them. While some beaches may boast softer granules than others, the basic fact remains: you'll find consistently whiter-than-white powder sand and luminous cyan-blue water like this almost nowhere else on earth. This fact alone is enough to bring over a million people a year to this tiny, remote Indian Ocean paradise.
It's no surprise that honeymooners and those seeking a glamorous tropical getaway have long had the country at the top of their wish lists. But there's choice beyond the five- and six-star resorts. Other islands cater for families, for divers, for those on a budget, and anyone wanting a tranquil back-to-nature experience.
